So what’s the difference between Clean eating and Lean eating...?
Many of us jump on the ‘Clean eating’ wagon without really understanding what that means. And nine times out of ten they always expect this to make them Lean… in some cases and initially yes! However, if your daily macronutrient split and calories out v’s calories in don’t add up then you are still going to feel stuck with your goals and sometimes revert back to eating non clean foods because you aren’t visually seeing the benefits of a cleaner diet.
Let me tell you now, your insides will always always thank you for a cleaner diet, and essentially this aids the bodies ability to function more efficiently, essentially we all want to be fat burning machines don’t we!?! No better way to make that happen then to fuel our bodies correctly for them to effectively use that fuel as energy. I’m not going to get too technical here but basically we need to fire up our metabolisms regularly. And just eating clean ‘non processed’ foods isn’t the only answer.
Clean eating refers to consuming foods that are in their most natural, unprocessed and nutrient dense form. The benefits are far deeper than potentially losing a few pounds. The British Journal of Health Psychology found that young adults who ate more fruit and vegetables were happier and more positive for a start! Nothing beats a healthy mind. When Your diet is rich in nutrients and minerals your mood is better, you get more quality sleep, which in itself has huge benefits on the body. Your mental and physical performance improves, your skin is clearer, digestion improves and your risk of heart disease lowers. That’s before lifting a finger in the gym! I don’t know about you but I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to cash in on all of these benefits just by adjusting the food they consume!
So lets now talk about the ‘LEAN’ benefits of clean eating. Because for the most part, anyone adopting a revamped cleaner lifestyle Is going to be consuming less saturated fat, less salt, less sugar and most importantly less processed chemicals, which do nasty things to our insides. Best not even get me started on how these effect your metabolism, otherwise you are in for a long read! So yes, a clean lifestyle will most definitely AID lean goals. And by Lean I don’t mean skinny, I mean a healthy bodyfat to muscle ratio. Everyone has their own specific ‘lean’ goals and that’s what finding YOUR Bodyperfect is all about. But the timing of when you eat, how often you eat and what combinations you create with your clean foods will all be huge contributors to whether or not your body wants to reach those lean goals. And most importantly SUGAR!!! Finally, the world is seeing what a vicious beast sugar is and how it is slowly killing more and more people every day, clean foods still contain sugars! ‘but its natural sugars’ I hear you say. Yes, natural sugars are far more valuable and less harmful to us than chemical sweeteners and added sugars, however we aren’t all designed to process high levels of sugar, and excess sugars love to store in our bodies as fat. It’s quite simple! Timing and combined macronutrient consumption is key. Look at Bodybuilders for example. The biggest of athletes manage to reduce their bodyfat to as little as 3-4% in extreme competition conditions! And I can assure you they don’t use banana’s alone as a 3hourly snack. Not to say you shouldn’t eat Banana’s, they have a time and a place, and of course 3-4% bodyfat isn’t the ideal goal for the average person. However, adopting similar values to those who inspire us makes sense.
If you’ve read my Bio or previous posts, you will know I didn’t always get my food right either. And Its quite true that my addictive nature jumps straight back on the sugar wagon when I give it half the chance, after all I am only human too. But learning how to improve your lifestyle via diet, even if it is only 75% of the time could literally change your life, not to mention potentially lengthen it, with an added bonus of a leaner gut!
