Falling off the wagon

By jem

We're all human, we all fall of the wagon sometimes, myself included! For me, travelling has been a huge test and has made me fall off my usual routine wagon a lot more than I would have liked!

How many times have you punished yourself mentally and physically for falling off your healthy wagon? It really is human, LIFE gets in the way and sometimes it really is important to actually LIVE and experience LIFE and not beat yourself up about it. However, it is the ability to get back on the wagon that is key. Maintaining a deep inner motivation that drags you back to a healthy routine and lifestyle. I truly believe that once you have that instilled within you, you can always bounce back! You just need to know how, create the habit and make it a priority within your lifestyle.

I surprised myself with how quickly I slipped out of routine and managed to relax whilst travelling up the east coast of Australia, which actually did my body the world of good.  I could rarely get to the gym and made new experiences and travel my priority. While it was still in the back of my mind, my fitness abilities and diet took a back step. Which my body thoroughly thanked me for, even though I wasn't so happy with the reflection in the mirror. But it wasn't really important and I wasn't 'unhealthy' so I embraced the break and promised myself to get back on the wagon when I was in a more appropriate situation, which I now am.  I guide and watch so many clients power through various goals  and almost forget that following my own advice is just as powerful! 4weeks back on the wagon and I am back to where i was before leaving my routine in Sydney, in fact i'm a little stronger and i've taught myself a deeper importance of the power of rest and listening to your body.  I didn't beat myself up about it, i set some realistic goals and took my time-patience and persistence really is a winning recipe. Which is funny because it's exactly what I teach clients and its taken me forever to do the same.

So next time you fall of the wagon or life gets in the way, don't beat yourself up! Stay patient and persistent to recreate your healthy lifestyle and before you know it you'll be stronger than ever before!
